The Rich Get Richer
The idea for the class story came after Mr. Bruff reviewed September Reading Logs. Mr. Bruff saw a connection between students who recorded their reading everyday and students participating in the interactive read aloud. During daily interactive read aloud, students who handed in completed reading logs were sharing deeply and using skills taught in lessons.
Oh, doctor! An inequality in knowledge began to blossom in reading which spread to writing, and math.
To close the gap, Mr. Bruff began to call attention to the inequality while pushing students towards completing tasks. Students began focusing on making progress every day and using learning objectives in their independent work.
Throughout the school year students learned: delaying gratification on a promise too good to be true will have dire consequences. Progress brings you closer to reaching your goal.
