Students in Brufftopia use lots of technology in the classroom. One of the tools we use are iPads. The app Explain Everything is a class favorite. It allows students to show their process.

Guest Post by Chris LeDoux, Strings TeacherDear Parents,
Please find attached a letter with important information about upcoming concerts. Please note that the in-school concert is intended for the student community at your child's elementary school - parental attendance is optional, as we will be performing the same program at the Town-wide Winter Orchestra concert in February. Also, concert dress for the in-school concert is the same as for the evening performance (white top, dark bottom). I am very proud of the progress students have made so far this year, and look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming concerts! Best, Chris LeDoux Now that the New Year has come & gone yet New Year goals are still on our minds, it's time to set some goals. What are you reading goals for the remainder of the year? How are you going to grow as a reader? How about in math? Are you going to push your thinking by being an independent learner?
Many of you know that the report cards will be sent home soon with your students. Be sure that you view them, ask question (if necessary), and review them with your child.
Please see the "For Parents" tab to navigate to look a blank copy of the LPS Grade Four report card. Click to link for access to all K-5 district report cards. Review of The Crossover by Kwame AlexanderBest book ever! By the way, it is not a poetry book. It is a novel, that happens to be written in verse. Usually I don't start off book suggestions with three word sentences. However, the book is as smooth as Allen Iverson's crossover so I thought it deserved 3 words, like Iverson's number. Meanwhile the whole first paragraph was 23 words like the G.O.A.T. Michael Jordan. The book The Crossover by Kwame Alexander is not about basketball. It is about a young man, Filthy McNasty, who struggles with loss. He sees success on the basketball court, but he struggles to keep it together off the basketball court. My poem, inspired by Kwame Alexander, summarizes The Crossover in one word: sensational. Sensational senˈsāSH(ə)n(ə)l adjective: (of an event, a person, or a piece of information) causing great public interest and excitement. As in, I couldn't put the book down, my eyes leapt from page to page, zig zagging, tongue waging, like MJ in Madison Square Garden where ballers put up or shut up. As in, you must read this to understand that words have power and meaning because they create change within students, in teachers and in every reader. As in, readers get swept away with emotion the way Kwame sets you up with a soft cross and then hits hard with the real filthy crossover McNasty style. As we begin our Geometry Unit, it is important for students to continue to make sense of problems. One way to keep with the thinking of "making sense of problems" is to draw a picture/diagram/model. Take a look at a former student's example of making a diagram to make sense of a problem within the Geometry Unit. Students always have interesting things to share with me. One of the things I love are things that make you think. Check out the video of an activity a student brought into school to share with me.
