Check out the class story, The Common Sense Chronicles- Volume II, The Class Story. It was an awesome experience for me to write. I had a chance to create interesting stories where the characters had to learn or use their common sense to solve problems.
The characters in the story are very loosely based on the students. Obviously none of my students are doctors, mayors, foremen, mages, or hold any other ridiculous job yet. Some may aspire to be doctors, mayors, foremen or even mages and that is wonderful. Because none of the students hold those positions yet, I hope they will enjoy the shenanigans their fictional selves have found themselves in.

Over the past month, the students have worked to complete a story. Each student picked one common sense lesson they learned this school year. They wrote an original story on the common sense idea.
Students who wanted to contribute to the Common Sense Chronicles in other ways than writing created illustrations for the class story. The illustrations created will be seen in the upcoming Common Sense Chronicles- Volume Two, The Class Story. Check out Volume One. We've been learning more and more about writing essays about our reading. Students have readily accepted the challenge of being reflective. Students were given limited direction and guidance in order to write a fairy tale. At each table group, students wrote only one sentence for their story. They then passed it on for the next student to contribute to the piece. Take a look at the imaginative pieces that were created by the Brufftopians.
Lots of students enjoy writing Flash Drafts. Take a look at a couple of the pictures the students have been using to creatively write flash drafts. We are going to be starting pen pals with a class from Donovan Elementary School in Randolph, MA. As I explained to the students in the classroom, I used to teach at Donovan so I am familiar with many of the students, their siblings, and a little of their background. A lot has changed in the past 3 years since I worked at the school. So I am really looking forward to correspondence between students. Check out our pen pal's class website. Below is an episode of Arthur that teaches about pen pals. Although we didn't watch the whole episode in class, it may be worth watching to see the conclusion of Arthur's experience of having a foreign pen pal.
