A few weeks ago, many parents and grandparents came into the classroom to share their Immigration Story. Students learned new first hand push and pull factors that lead people to the America. Guest Post by Adrienne C.Before I met all these immigrants and heard about their story I only knew that immigrants just came here because of either a war or it wasn’t safe where they were living but now that I’ve heard everybody's story, I’ve learned that that’s not the only case. Sometimes it’s because you want a good learning experience or maybe you just want a different life style. I’ve seen that every immigrant that has shared their story with us said that they were happy to come to the States. Some of them(like Hannah’s grandfather) brought to this country something that they can remember from their old home so they can remember where they use to live. I’ve seen that some people have very interesting stories. I’m happy that my grandmother stayed here or I would have never been born! So you can see that if someone in your family didn’t come here you wouldn’t have been born! So despite all the reasons immigrants have come here, if they didn’t have that reason to come here, we wouldn’t of been born so when you think about it, it’s a good thing that our ancestors have come here. It’s good for your whole family! I have also learned that there are many different reasons to either leave your home country or to came here. These are called pull and push factors. I think these factors are really interesting to know why they came here or just had to leave. Some push factors I’ve heard from the parents and grandparents that have come to talk are wars, safety issues, and politics. And some pull factors are that there are a lot of good job opportunities, again politics, and school. Guest Post by Bianca Z.Somethings I really enjoyed about the immigration stories was learning the different ways why people decided to come to America and the different challenges and emotions they felt while they immigrated here like Kate’s mom wanted to immigrate here to better education but Pedro’s family came here because they thought it was great for them and their children. But something I noticed that everyone all had in common was that America was just a great country, and it was a safe place to go.I also noticed that whenever parents start to talk about leaving their family, they started to choke up ,but only a little bit.And that shows that they still think of there family. And some people were worried but they made it. Another thing I enjoyed about the Immigration stories was learning the difference between their home countries and America and what we have that they don’t have, like in China, back then they didn’t have chocolate ,and later on my mom told me that they thought chocolate was like treasure to them!but over here chocolate is just chocolate to us.but still delicious:)Another thing that we had and they didn't have was the fancy electronics we had like calculators and other “high tech”stuff. The last thing that I enjoyed while hearing the immigration stories was learning countries have changed in the past for a example I know that China has developed in the past because now they have many more electronics and they do have sweets too! And that was the great experience I had during the immigration stories. Video
