Students are currently working on the final draft of their realistic fiction stories. Many students decided to type their final draft. The drafts are due this Friday at the end of the literacy block. Because the students did not bring in flash drives, I've put their unfinished work on the class website. Follow the link to download your child's work to be continued at home. Email me their updated Word document and I'll be sure to have it ready for them in school. http://mrbruffsclassroom.weebly.com/realistic-fiction-stories.html

Below you'll see an email I sent to parents who have signed up for a conference at 4pm or later tomorrow, October 29th. However, I do not have an email address for each parent who I'll be meeting with tomorrow evening. This blog post should reach all parents who I do not have an email address for. Please read the email I sent earlier tonight if you have a conference scheduled for tomorrow, October 29th. Hi Parents, I am writing to you because you have signed up for a conference well after the front door to the school is locked. Please park and enter through the door closest to the classroom. Park in the parking lot next to the gym. When you walk towards the school, you'll need to go to the door to the left. Some of you may see parents coming and going because of Lextended Day from the door on the left (that's the correct door). I may be finishing up with a conference, but, I'll be sure to have the door open for you! If you feel you've been outside waiting too long, feel free to send me an email. I'll have my email open so that you can send me a message to let me know you've arrived. Finally, could you please reply to this email to let me know that you've seen the directions? Thank in advance. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening. Sincerely, Chris Bruff Grade 4 Bowman Elementary School http://mrbruffsclassroom.weebly.com/ Follow me on Twitter at @MisterBruff This Wednesday, October 29th, marks the first day of fall conferences. So that you are prepared for the upcoming conference, please see the PDF. Please return it with your child to school prior to the conference if there is something you'd like to discuss before.
Fall Conference Notification Dear Parents,
I am really looking forward to seeing you all to discuss your student. As I mentioned at Curriculum Night, parents play an essential role in a child's success. Taking part in the conference allows us (parent, student and teacher) to take another step in the right direction so your child has an excellent year in fourth grade. During the conference I will be covering a range of topics: an update on your student's progress this year, any concerns I may have, strengths, and student goals for the year. If there are any concerns you wish to bring up, please feel free to do so. I will be giving you time to bring any questions or concerns. If there is something specific you'd like me to be aware of prior to the meeting, please let me know by email or by giving me a phone call. Please check Sign Up Genius to confirm or change your time. I am really looking forward to our conference later this week. Sincerely, Chris Bruff Book Review by Sanidi W.Recently I read Charlie Bone And the Time Twister by Jenny Nimmo. It all starts when Charlie finds Henry (his great-great uncle) twisted through time from a marble called a time twister. Since Henry got twisted through time to the future, his family members are like 100 years old. You might think that everybody would love to see a family member that disappeared, but not his cousin Zeke. He always hated Henry because Henry was smarter than Zeke. So, Charlie has to take Henry to where he belongs. But will he be able to do that Even with his evil great – aunts lurking beside him? I loved this book because of how the mystery sort of connects in the end of the book and sort of make you wonder why you didn’t figure it out already. I also like this book because I LOVE fantasy. I especially liked the fantasy in this book because unlike some other books that have fantasy, Charlie Bone And The Time Twister ‘s characters have the most obvious powers such as hypnotizing, moving things with mind and flying. For more information about the book, check out Jenny Nimmo's website. The last chance to order Bowman spirit wear is November 1st. So be sure to place your orders before that date. Please see the flyer that went home with your child a few weeks ago. To place orders, go to the Bowman PTA website. On Monday, the rock jar overflowed. Although I wasn't in the classroom to see and hear the excitement that came from reaching our goal of filling the rock jar, it was easy for me to tell the students were very pleased with themselves. Smiles were plastered across ever face, reports of filling the rock jar reached me before I made it into the classroom, and plans for the rock party had begun.
Yesterday, the class voted on having a Pajama Day for their rock party. As I explained to the students, they will be allowed, but not obligated to, wear their pajamas. The pajamas should be school appropriate. That means no blood in the image (if there is an image on the pajama), no weapons in the image or pattern, and nothing offensive. The best approach to take is if you are having any questions about it, don't wear it. Some students explained to me that they often wear slippers or comfy shoes around the house. I informed the students that they may wear those shoes. Remember that Tuesday students have P.E. Also, the weather has been getting cooler, so students will need to be sure they are clothed appropriately for the weather outside and the events throughout the day. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. |
