Guest Post from Strings Instructor Janet HaasDear String Families and Students,
Happy New Year to all of you and welcome back to our school routine! This message is a reminder to all students that your first performances are coming up and the next few weeks of lessons are extremely critical. The Bowman in-school performance date is Fri. Jan 29 at 9 AM. As we prepare for this concert, it is very important that students remember their instruments and music each week for lessons on Friday! Students will need their instruments (please have the child’s name on the outside) and their books. Students will be using their music for this performance. When we get closer to the concert, we will have a special rehearsal on Friday morning, Jan. 22. For that rehearsal, we would like our students to bring a folding music stand (if they own one). If you bring your stand, please label the stand cover and all parts of the stand with your last name. I also want to remind you about our exciting Winter Orchestra Concerts at Lexington High School at 7:30 PM, in the gym. Your child’s performance night is Thurs. Feb. 4. Please place this important date on your family's calendar. This concert features Gr. 4 beginning strings from Bowman, Bridge and Harrington, the Clarke Gr. 6 Strings, the Clarke Gr. 7/8 Full Orchestra and the Lexington High School Chamber Orchestra. It is a wonderful concert that showcases the string program in less than an hour! There is an admission fee of $5 for adults. We are asking that performers arrive early, 6:45 PM, for tuning, placement in the gym and warm up. Beginners will need to have their concert songs memorized for this performance. If you have any questions about performances, practice tips or how to tune a stringed instrument, please feel free to send me an email and I will respond ASAP. I look forward to seeing you at our performances. Sincerely, Janet Haas
