Good Morning Bowman Families,
I wanted to be sure that everyone has the attached information on MCAS. MCAS dates have changed slightly due to changes that the state is making in their content and administration. Please note that we will not have a fourth grade long composition day, however, there will be writing components as part of the base MCAS assessment. The revised MCAS assessment will be similar to previous tests in its multiple choice and short answer format and will also include an "on-demand" writing sample for some grade levels. As we have more information, we will share it. Parents of students in grades 3-5 are asked to note the dates for assessment. Attendance during these testing windows is very important. As part of our regular instruction on reading genres, Bowman teachers will help students understand the "test taking" genre of reading. Many children can become anxious when faced with assessments. We at Bowman believe that MCAS is just a snapshot of a child's progress during a year. We encourage you to remind children that MCAS is really about helping teachers understand how our students are doing so that we can provide the most targeted and appropriate instruction possible. Attached as well is January's PTA Broadside. Please note that fourth and fifth grade Math Night is at 6:30 tomorrow night (1/12/16) in the Bowman cafeteria. Bring your fourth and fifth graders and come enjoy a night of math investigations, games and challenges. Happy Monday, Mary
